Things of Summer

We are surrounded by the Dog Days of Summer, but it seems more like a pack of cramp-inflicting, uber-sweat-inducing, make you beg for a sprinkler to coordinate with your run and allow a few brief drops of cool water to caress you days of summer. I personally blame Sirius.

But, I'd like to express my deepest sympathies to all runners living in the Southeaster and South-central parts of the country, who have to deal with 100+ temps today. I think it sucks to have 73 degrees and crazy humidity at 7am, while y'all are starting at 80+ at 6ish.

Sorry my running friends, sorry.

I've come to enjoy running in 90 degree heat. Or maybe I'm just loosing my sanity.

I'm think I'm getting acclimated as well. Step 1 - get as naked as possible. Step 2 - run until your shoes squish and squash so much wish sweat you can't stand it anymore. Step 3 - change socks, keep running until you hallucinate and see Underpants Gnomes (see South Park episode) then drink Gatorade mixed with Cytomax and ice. LOL. It was 87 degrees here by 9 a.m. today.

I told the Readhead yesterday that I hate training in winter and I hate training in summer. That leaves me about four weeks in April and four weeks in October in which running is as joyous and wonderful as it should be.

Maybe I should just become a fair-weather friend of running...

I'll take the heat over the cold any day. Bring it on Mr. Sun.
